Maurice Wilkins

Only three Kiwi-born scientists have won a Nobel Prize and Maurice Wilkins is the third member of that elite group.

Although he moved to England as a six-year old, he was born and spent his early years in the Wairarapa and we will gladly share this giant intellect with Mother England!

Acknowledged as one of the pioneers of DNA studies, he was awarded a Nobel Prize jointly with the legendary Francis Crick and James Watson.

Maurice recorded a public statement as to his disgust at the dropping of atomic bombs on civilians. Like all good Kiwi blokes, he preferred to speak his mind.
