Ernest Rutherford
Rightly recognised by men as authoritative as Einstein, Rutherford stands alone as the one Kiwi scientist to be in the select pantheon of men and women whose science changed the way men thought about the universe. When anyone makes a list of the greatest scientists, Rutherford stands there alongside Einstein, Curie, Newton, Pasteur and Archimedes.
Like many of the well-known Kiwi heroes we're highlighting here, there is enough information on Rutherford from far better sources, but we do want to acknowledge a man so great he even made postage stamps in East Germany in the days of Soviet rule.
Not to mention the NZ $100 note!
Rutherford is best covered, appropriately enough, at Rutherford.org
